Raleigh Denim Raleigh Denim Workshop Raleigh Denim Workshop Initial Fit 1 81/101 "Bling" Selvage Initial Fit 2

I can proudly say that I am the first girl to buy a pair of raw denim jeans from Raleigh Denim. When I bought them, Victor Lytvinenko (half of the husband-and-wife team that runs Raleigh Denim) was kind enough to give me a tour of the workshop where my jeans had been hand-stitched on vintage sewing machines just an hour before. As if that wasn’t fresh enough, Victor customized my jeans himself, ripping open the seam and sewing them back together to fit my more feminine specifications. This is not a common practice at the shop, which is already overloaded with a newfound popularity following a piece in the nytimes, but I could tell that the prospect of a girl wearing his raw denim made Victor too excited to contain himself. I should note, Raleigh Denim currently only makes their raw denim jeans in a Men’s cut, though Victor told me it is his goal to have a Women’s cut within the year. As he was ironing down my selvage folds, he made me promise to give progress reports on the wear of jeans. That man loves his denim. And so do I.

Initial Fit: So far so good, I’ve worn them about 10 days and, aside from the expected stiffness, the jeans are pretty comfortable. The first few days were a little tight on my bum but now they’re great. Seeing as I’m a girl and I don’t carry my wallet in my jeans, I’ve decided to pick up the habit of keeping my phone in my back pocket. I can’t let the guys have all the fading fun!

Now, if only I had the perfect belt. Maybe my friend at A Farewell To Charms can help me with that!
